Microsoft OneNore 2010 : Distributing Your Notes - Saving Pages, Sections, and Notebooks in Alternative File Formats

Save OneNote material in an alternative file format so that others who don’t have OneNote can read the material. OneNote offers a host of different ways to save pages, sections, and notebooks in alternative file formats.

To save in a different format, click the File tab and choose Save As to open the Save As window. From there, choose whether you want to save a page, section, or your notebook; choose a file format; and click the Save As button.

OneNote offers these Save As options:

OneNote 2010 section (*.one)A page or sectionA OneNote 2010 section file.
OneNote 2007 section (*.one)A page or sectionA OneNote 2007 section file. Use this option for backward compatibility to give a page or section to someone running OneNote 2007.
Word document (*.docx)A page or sectionA Word document. The document can be read and edited in Word 2010 and 2007.
Word 97-2003 document (*.doc)A page or sectionA Word 97-2003 document. The document can be read and edited in Word 2003 and prior versions of Word.
PDF (*.pdf)A page, section, or notebookA Portable Document Format file. The file can be read in Adobe Reader.
XPS (*.xps)A page, section, or notebookAn XML Paper Specification file. The file can be read using XPS Viewer (available in Windows Vista and Windows 7).
Single File Web Page (*.mht)A page or sectionA Single File Web Page Format file. The file can be viewed in Internet Explorer.
OneNote Package (*.onepkg)A notebookA OneNote Package Format file. Choose this option to transfer a notebook from one computer to another.

1. Save a Page, Section, or Notebook to an Alternative File Format

  1. To save a page or section in a different format, open the page or section.

  2. Click File.

  3. Choose Save As.

  4. Choose Section.

  5. Choose PDF (*.pdf).

  6. Click the Save As button.

  7. In the Save As dialog box, choose a folder for storing the section and click the Save button.
