Sharepoint 2013 : Community portals and sites - Creating a community site subsite

1/25/2014 2:48:52 AM
If you have a collection of similar SharePoint 2013 community sites that are managed by the same group of people, or if you don’t have administrative access to create site collections, you can also create a discussion site as a subsite.

Create a community subsite

  1. From the root site that will contain your community subsite, click the Settings button (the small gear icon next to the name of the logged-on user). On the menu that appears, click Site Contents.

  2. On the Site Contents page, in the Subsites section, select the New Subsite link.

    Tip

If you will have a large number of Community Sites, we recommend that you implement each site as a separate site collection rather than as a subsite. Each site can be separately managed and archived. This also supports separate access and storage requirements for each site.

  3. On the New SharePoint Site page, type a title and description.

  4. Type a URL for the site, relative to the root site.

  5. Choose a language.

  6. Choose the Community Site template (located on the Collaboration tab).

  7. Choose user permissions for the site.

If you select Use The Same Permissions As Parent Site, you will not have an automatically created Moderators group if your parent site is not also a Community Site. You will need to manually create the Moderators group if you choose this option.

  8. Select navigation options for the site.

  9. Click Create.
