To connect to the Internet through a broadband modem
1. Open the Set Up a Connection or Network wizard.
2. Click the Connect to the Internet link in the Set Up a Connection or Network screen to open the dialog box shown in .
The Connect to the Internet dialog box lets you connect to the Internet through a broadband connection.
(PPPoE stands for point-to-point protocol over Ethernet, which is a protocol for DSL services.)
3. Fill in the Broadband Connection configuration screen .
You enter your broadband connection’s configuration details in this dialog box.
4. Click the Connect button.
Tip
As a general rule, Ethernet broadband connections are faster than Wi-Fi, which in turn is faster than 3G or 4G networks.
Tip
A feature called DirectAccess is available in
Windows 8 to users accessing a network with a Windows server. This type
of remote access connection lets users securely access enterprise
shares, websites, and applications without connecting through a VPN. To
use this feature, an administrator must run RRAS on the server and your
device must be an authenticated client.
