Since the Web is a visual medium, CorelDraw's settings should be based on a Web browser displayed on a computer monitor rather than a printed page. A monitor uses pixels as its unit of measure and a screen resolution of 72 or 96 dots per inch (dpi). (A dot equals a pixel.) It is equally important to restrict yourself to Web-safe colors that browsers can display well.

To change the rulers to pixels and set the resolution:

1.
Right-click a ruler and choose Ruler Setup from the pop-up menu that appears.

The Options dialog box opens with the Rulers heading selected.

2.
In the Units section of the dialog box (Figure 1), select pixels from the Horizontal drop-down list.

Figure 1. Set pixels as the unit for both the horizontal and vertical rulers.

3.
Check the Same units for Horizontal and Vertical rulers check box.

4.
Click the Resolution button.

The Edit Pixel Resolution dialog box appears (Figure 2).

Figure 2. Set the horizontal and vertical resolution to 72 dpi.

5.
Set the Horizontal resolution to 72, and be sure that the Identical values check box is checked.

6.
Click OK to return to the Options dialog box.

7.
Click OK.

The rulers change to show pixels.

To open the Web-safe Colors palette:

  • Choose Window > Color Palettes > Web-safe Colors (Figure 3).

Figure 3. To ensure that the colors users see on your Web pages are true to your choices, use the Web-safe Colors color palette.

 Tip

  • While designing Web pages, you might want to temporarily remove any other visible color palettes to avoid using them by mistake.
